An alpha vantage alternative is worth choosing when the 25-requests-a-day free limit or a thin reviews record stalls your project, since Alpha Vantage’s paid tiers jump straight to $49.99 a month. We scored 18 alternatives to it on six weighted criteria, and every figure below comes from each provider’s own pages, checked on 26 September 2026.
Among them, EODHD ranks first. We rank fourth, tied with Massive. We sell market data too, scored with the same rubric as everyone else here, and our narrower coverage costs us points, shown in the scorecards below.
How did we score the alpha vantage alternatives?
Each provider was scored from 0 to 10 on six weighted criteria: coverage and price for value count double, quality counts twice as much as licensing, and developer experience and access fill out the rest. A 10 is the best offering among the providers we researched, not a flawless product.

- Real-time gated to the $99.99/mo ALL-IN-ONE plan
- Options data is EOD-only, no intraday
- Pricing split across five-plus separate tiers/add-ons
EODHD leads on breadth and reviews: more than 150,000 tickers across 60-plus exchanges and a 4.7-of-5 Trustpilot score from 146 reviews, the best of any provider here. Real-time prices need its $99.99 ALL-IN-ONE plan, and options data is end of day only.
Financial Modeling Prep
7.3/10 Fundamentals-and-filings breadth at a low price, but no options product whatsoever.

Market Data
6.9/10 Deep US options and Sheets support, but the narrowest asset coverage of the broad providers here.
- Data coverage ×2
- 4/10
- Price for value ×2
- 9/10
- Data quality and reliability ×2
- 9/10
- Developer experience ×1.5
- 7/10

- Licensing clarity ×1
- 7/10
Strengths
- Flat, transparent credit pricing
- Free forever tier, no card required
- Real-time OPRA options with free Greeks/IV
- Trustpilot 4.5/5 (110 reviews)
Weaknesses
- No forex, crypto, futures, or international data
- No websocket streaming, no MCP server
- Excel add-in still unshipped
Our options API returns real-time OPRA chains with Greeks and IV included at no extra cost, something Alpha Vantage’s REALTIME_OPTIONS endpoint does not offer: it has no documented way to filter a chain by strike or delta. Real-time options are billed per contract returned, one credit each, on the Trader plan and above, and the 30-day trial never includes real-time options because OPRA entitlement needs a paid account. We cover US stocks and options only, plus mutual funds, so a trader who needs Alpha Vantage’s forex or crypto coverage, or its 50-plus technical indicators, should stay with it or look elsewhere on this list.
What does Alpha Vantage cost?
Alpha Vantage pricing starts at a free tier of 25 requests a day with no real-time data. Every paid tier keeps the same features and raises only the rate limit:
| Plan | Monthly | Billed annually | Rate limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 25 requests/day |
| Premium 1 | $49.99 | $41.58/mo | 75 requests/min |
| Premium 2 | $99.99 | $83.25/mo | 150 requests/min |
| Premium 3 | $149.99 | $124.92/mo | 300 requests/min |
| Premium 4 | $199.99 | $166.58/mo | 600 requests/min |
| Premium 5 | $249.99 | $208.25/mo | 1,200 requests/min |
Business use has no published price on Alpha Vantage’s pricing page and routes to a sales conversation instead. Our commercial plans go through our partner Intrinio. Commercial plans begin at $333 per month; we quoted that figure to three separate prospects in September 2026.
Why do developers leave Alpha Vantage?
Alpha Vantage’s Trustpilot rating is 2.4 of 5 from 11 reviews, and the complaints cluster on two things. One reviewer wrote that the $50-a-month plan’s 15-minute-delayed quotes were “not up to date.” Another reported paying $99 for data that “was WRONG” and said support “ignored my messages via email.”
A third called the cancellation flow itself the problem: “Can’t cancel a subscription because their website is terrible.” Separately, GitHub issues from projects built on the free tier report hitting the 25-requests-a-day cap during ordinary testing, well short of production load.
Which Alpha Vantage alternative fits which need?
Pick EODHD for the deepest history and the best reviews if real-time can wait for a $99.99 plan. Pick Financial Modeling Prep for fundamentals and filings at a lower price than Alpha Vantage’s Premium 1.
Pick Massive if options chains and a websocket feed matter more than a low entry price. Pick us if US options with real-time Greeks are the job, in Sheets or through the API, and international symbols are not on your list.
Why can prices from Alpha Vantage differ from ours on the same day?
Usually because one source adjusts past prices for later splits and corporate actions and the other does not. Adjusted history changes whenever a new corporate action lands, so a value you fetched last month can come back different today.
That default cost us. In April 2026 an institution valuing donated stock told us our highs and lows disagreed with other quote sites, and it withheld a subscription payment for five weeks while we investigated. A donation is valued at the price that traded that day, so it needed unadjusted candles: two query parameters removed all five discrepancies it reported. The same review found a real bug that dropped the third decimal from some prices, and we fixed it.
Why does our API accept one IP address at a time?
The exchanges treat a data product as controlled when the vendor can show that one customer device at a time reads the data and none of it is passed on. That status is what keeps our real-time prices low, so each account accepts one IP address and no serverless functions.
The rule has a cost, and we have watched it. In September 2026 a customer calling our API from Google Apps Script, whose outbound IP addresses rotate, hit the limit. We explained why and pointed him to our Sheets add-on, which refreshes safely. Thirty-three minutes later he wrote that Massive allowed his setup, and asked us to cancel.
When is Market Data not an alpha vantage alternative?
Alpha Vantage also ships an official Excel add-in and a hosted MCP server for AI agents; we have neither, with our own Excel add-in planned but not yet shipped. If either one is the deciding factor, stay with Alpha Vantage, or check the financial MCP servers ranking for a provider that already has one built.
Run ten symbols through both free tiers on one afternoon before you commit, including a thinly traded name and one whose price you already know. Neither free tier needs a credit card. Our options data page lists every chain filter we support, and the full ranking of financial data providers scores all 19 providers we researched, Alpha Vantage included.
If Alpha Vantage is one of several providers on your list, our pages on Finnhub alternatives and Financial Modeling Prep alternatives use the same rankings.
