EODHD vs FMP (Financial Modeling Prep) sets a 150,000-ticker global data provider with an options add-on against a fundamentals-and-filings specialist with none. EODHD wins for exchange breadth and reviews, plus an EOD-only options product FMP does not have; FMP wins for a bigger free tier and deeper fundamentals, from statements to 13F data.

EODHD vs FMP: the feature comparison

EODHD’s coverage runs deep: 150,000-plus tickers across 60-plus exchanges, and its Trustpilot rating of 4.7 out of 5 on 146 reviews is the best of either provider. The EODHD free tier is thin, 20 calls a day, and real-time delivery over websocket is gated to the $99.99-a-month ALL-IN-ONE plan; the cheapest paid tier with any daily volume is $16.58 a month billed annually.

FMP’s free tier is far more usable day to day, 250 calls a day against EODHD’s 20, and its entry paid tier is $22 a month billed annually for claimed real-time US data and up to 30 years of history on its highest self-serve tier. Its edge is fundamentals depth: DCF models and 13F institutional holdings, which EODHD does not sell. Both ship an official first-party MCP server and native Sheets and Excel add-ins.

Which has more options data: EODHD or FMP?

EODHD, by default. FMP has none at all. EODHD sells a separate end-of-day options add-on at $29.99 a month with all five greeks and implied volatility, reaching back to Q4 2023. Neither provider offers intraday or real-time options at any price.

An EODHD vs Financial Modeling Prep decision on options comes down to that one add-on: pay for it, or go without options entirely on FMP.

EODHD

8.6/10 40+ years of US history and the best reviews here, but real-time needs the $99.99/month top plan.

Strengths

  • 40+ years of US history
  • Trustpilot 4.7/5 (146 reviews), the best here
  • Free Sheets/Excel add-ins and a 72-tool MCP server

Weaknesses

  • Real-time gated to the $99.99/mo ALL-IN-ONE plan
  • Free tier limited to 20 calls/day

EODHD is the broader research API: 40-plus years of US history, an SEC-filings endpoint, and SDKs in seven languages including R, PHP and MATLAB, ahead of most peers on developer reach. Bulk whole-exchange downloads are billed by credit weight rather than gated to one expensive plan, which suits a backtest that pulls many symbols at once. Its insider transactions and full financial statements sit behind a $59.99-a-month Fundamentals tier separate from the base EOD plan, and options are priced separately again as a $29.99-a-month marketplace add-on, so a working setup often means stacking two or three of its five-plus tiers rather than one flat plan.

Financial Modeling Prep

7.2/10 Up to 30 years of history and a $22/month entry tier make this a strong value pick.

Strengths

  • Up to 30 years of history, tier-gated
  • $22/mo Starter tier, billed annually
  • Native Sheets, Excel, and MCP server

Weaknesses

  • Real-time basis undocumented on paid tiers
  • No official SDK, community-maintained only

FMP is the cheaper way into a bigger free allowance and deeper fundamentals: 250 free calls a day, then years of statements and ratios, plus analyst estimates reaching up to 30 years back on its top self-serve tier. No official SDK ships in any language; every client library on its GitHub page, in Python, JavaScript, Go, PHP or C#, is community-maintained rather than first-party. Its Trustpilot rating is 3.8 out of 5 on 98 reviews, a bimodal spread of 64% five-star and 23% one-star, with complaints clustered on data-accuracy audits and an undocumented endpoint restriction.

What did we tell people who asked for Excel?

The truth, each time. In September 2025 a prospect asked for nothing more than a once-a-day refresh of closing prices in Excel, and our answer was: “We do not have an excel add-in at this time.” We offered Sheets or the API instead.

In March 2026 another asked for futures in Excel, “the only info I need.” We told him futures were a year away at least, and we still have no Excel add-in to put them in.

Why can prices from EODHD and FMP differ from ours on the same day?

Usually because one source adjusts past prices for later splits and corporate actions and the other does not. Adjusted history changes whenever a new corporate action lands, so a value you fetched last month can come back different today.

That default cost us. In April 2026 an institution valuing donated stock told us our highs and lows disagreed with other quote sites, and it withheld a subscription payment for five weeks while we investigated. A donation is valued at the price that traded that day, so it needed unadjusted candles: two query parameters removed all five discrepancies it reported. The same review found a real bug that dropped the third decimal from some prices, and we fixed it.

Should you choose EODHD or FMP?

Choose EODHD for exchange breadth, the strongest reviews of the two, or an options add-on FMP does not sell. Choose FMP for a bigger free tier, deeper statements and filings, or a cheaper first-party MCP entry point.

Market Data covers a narrower job than either: commercial plans begin at $333 per month through our partner Intrinio rather than a self-serve checkout, and we have no international symbols or forex, and no multi-tier fundamentals catalog to match either competitor’s. Three separate prospects have asked, in nearly identical words across 2024 and 2025, whether we had an Excel add-in. We still don’t, while both EODHD and FMP ship one today. Our real-time OPRA options with greeks on every quote is the one place we outrank both; our options data API page shows that chain pricing in full.

Both providers appear in our ranking of financial data providers, and the best stock API comparison scores EODHD and FMP, alongside Market Data, on the same six criteria.
