A global stock market API needs prices for exchanges beyond the New York and Nasdaq listings most US-based tools cover. Market Data does not sell that: our stocks and options stop at the US border. We ranked 11 providers that do sell coverage outside the US, from cheap end-of-day history to real-time feeds priced per exchange.

That answer is not new. Every year from 2022 through 2026, in at least six separate support threads, we have told prospects the same thing: US markets only. A customer once told us our SHOT quote did not match GoogleFinance, which showed a price more than 10% off and timestamped 17:30 instead of the 4PM US close. It cost the customer about a month of back-and-forth, spread across several weeks, before we traced it to a second listing: “That is probably the ticker SHOT from a different exchange, not the SHOT that is quoting on Nasdaq,” and the customer confirmed it was Nasdaq Stockholm. That is the risk in international stock market data: a symbol that looks like a US ticker can be quoting a different company on a different exchange entirely.

One reader scored each provider below from 0 to 10 on five criteria that matter outside the US: how many non-US exchanges it reaches, whether that data is real-time, how far its non-US history goes, non-US fundamentals, and cost. Exchanges and cost count double; the other three count one and a half times each.

Is stock data outside the US end-of-day or real-time?

Real-time is the exception outside the US, not the default. EODHD and Financial Modeling Prep both gate it behind their most expensive plans; Twelve Data limits it to US and EU markets and delays every other one it lists; Yahoo Finance keeps every non-US exchange 15 to 30 minutes behind, free, through an unofficial, scraped feed with no published API.

A daily close price is one number, and a provider can license it in bulk across dozens of exchanges at once, the way Marketstack bundles EOD history for 70-plus exchanges into the same $8.99 tier it uses for US stocks. A live quote is a continuous stream that has to be authorized by the exchange it comes from, one exchange at a time, which is the harder and costlier thing to sell. Twelve Data’s own pricing page shows that split directly: real-time on US and EU markets, delayed everywhere else, for the same monthly fee.

Why does real-time data cost more per exchange outside the US?

Every non-US exchange sets its own real-time data fee and its own agreement, so a provider needs one deal per exchange, not one deal for the world. EODHD prices that gap directly: real-time websockets need its $99.99 ALL-IN-ONE plan, well above the $16.58 tier that already covers 20-plus years of history.

The US works differently: consolidated plans combine every exchange, the CTA and UTP plans for stocks and OPRA for options, so a vendor reaches the whole market through a few agreements. Outside the US there is no such shortcut, so a provider adding Frankfurt or Tokyo starts a new licensing conversation with that exchange alone, and the price of the plan above it shows what that conversation costs.

Why doesn’t Market Data cover stocks outside the US?

We carry OPRA options data and an IEX-based stock feed, both limited to US exchanges, so we never built the billing, symbology or compliance a second country’s exchange would require. If Frankfurt or Tokyo matters to your product, use one of the providers ranked above instead of waiting on us.

Staying US-only is a choice we keep making on purpose, not an oversight: every additional country needs its own exchange agreement and its own compliance path, and we would rather serve the one market we know well than serve several of them partway. For the full picture across every data type, the financial data providers ranking scores all 19 competitors on the same rubric, and the best stock API ranking covers US coverage in more depth. Our own stock data stays put at the US border, priced from $12 a month as of September 2026.
