IEX Cloud, the REST API for US stock and fundamentals data, shut down for good on August 31, 2024. iexcloud.io and iexapis.com no longer resolve. The right iex cloud alternative depends on what you used it for: real-time quotes, or fundamentals data. We ranked 17 stock data APIs that are still standing.

IEX Group itself referred departing customers to Intrinio, its official partner. Independent write-ups more often pointed people toward Alpha Vantage, Tiingo, Databento, Massive, Twelve Data and EODHD. We are one of the providers now competing for that traffic. The separate IEX exchange, and its TOPS and DEEP market-data feeds, were not affected by the shutdown and still operate on their own.

Tiingo

6.8/10 30+ years of EOD history and 1-minute bars since 2017, but full real-time needs a separate IEX agreement.

Strengths

  • 30+ years of US equity history
  • 1-minute bars since 2017
  • 1,000 requests/day on the free Starter tier

Weaknesses

  • Full TOPS real-time needs a signed IEX Exchange agreement since 2025-02-01
  • No official SDK

Tiingo published its own IEX Cloud alternatives guide and offers a comparable free tier plus a flat $25-a-month Power plan, and a third-party app vendor confirmed it as a working drop-in replacement. Our page on Tiingo vs Alpha Vantage compares Tiingo with another common destination.

Databento

5.4/10 Nanosecond real-time and 16+ years of tick data, at a $199/month floor with no free tier.

Strengths

  • 16+ years of Level 0 history
  • $97M Series B, July 2026

Weaknesses

  • No free tier, cheapest flat plan is $199/mo
  • No Google Sheets or Excel product

Databento wrote its own migration guide and is, notably, an official direct distributor of IEX market data, so a former IEX Cloud user can still get genuinely IEX-sourced quotes through it. Its cheapest flat real-time plan is $199 a month, well above IEX Cloud’s old entry tiers.

Massive

Strengths

  • Full-SIP real-time equities from $199/mo
  • 20+ years of history back to 2003
  • 4 official SDKs plus an MCP server

Weaknesses

  • Real-time gated to the $199/mo Advanced tier
  • Trustpilot 2.3/5 (6 reviews)

Massive, formerly Polygon.io, published its own IEX Cloud retirement guide mapping IEX Cloud’s endpoints to its own. It also covers forex and crypto, plus futures, none of which IEX Cloud ever sold. Real-time stock data starts at $199 a month, personal use only.

EODHD

8.6/10 40+ years of US history and the best reviews here, but real-time needs the $99.99/month top plan.

Strengths

Weaknesses

  • Free tier limited to 20 calls/day

EODHD ranks first on our own stock API hub and is named in most IEX Cloud migration write-ups as the value play for global end-of-day coverage, from about $19.99 a month, cheaper at entry than IEX Cloud’s old paid tier ever was.

We never sold IEX Cloud’s fundamentals depth, but our real-time stock price starts at $12 a month billed annually, and our options chains with greeks are something IEX Cloud’s old customers did not have before.

What does IEX data cost since the shutdown?

IEX Cloud’s own legacy pricing was as low as $9/month for years. Buying IEX data directly costs far more: in February 2025, six months after IEX Cloud closed, one commercial customer was quoted $4,000/month for IEX Exchange’s own direct feed.

That customer looked elsewhere rather than pay it. Their own three-way comparison set our price against IEX direct ($500-4,000/mo) and Tiingo’s IEX-derived feed ($250/mo for display-only, no bid/ask). It is a real comparison, and it explains why Tiingo shows up in so many “IEX Cloud alternative” lists.

Which IEX Cloud alternative fits which need?

For a broad, cheap replacement of IEX Cloud’s old stock-and-fundamentals scope, Tiingo. For genuinely IEX-sourced tick data at scale, Databento. For the widest range of asset classes beyond IEX Cloud’s old scope, Massive. For US options and mutual funds on a flat non-professional price, ours, from the $12-a-month Starter plan.

Our own stock market API covers what we sell today, and the best stock API ranking scores all 17 side by side.

What if you need a commercial license for an IEX Cloud replacement?

We refer you to our partner Intrinio. We made that change in February 2025, after IEX ended free redistribution of real-time stock prices for business use, because exchange compliance for business customers was more than our small team could handle.

The volume is steady: from 1 to 25 September 2026 we passed on 22 commercial enquiries. Each one described a product that would show prices, or something built from them, to other people.

Why can prices from an IEX Cloud replacement differ from ours on the same day?

Usually because one source adjusts past prices for later splits and corporate actions and the other does not. Adjusted history changes whenever a new corporate action lands, so a value you fetched last month can come back different today.

That default cost us. In April 2026 an institution valuing donated stock told us our highs and lows disagreed with other quote sites, and it withheld a subscription payment for five weeks while we investigated. A donation is valued at the price that traded that day, so it needed unadjusted candles: two query parameters removed all five discrepancies it reported. The same review found a real bug that dropped the third decimal from some prices, and we fixed it.

When is Market Data the wrong IEX Cloud alternative?

Choose something else if you trade outside the US. We also do not sell forex, crypto, futures or Databento’s raw order-book depth. Commercial redistribution through our partner Intrinio starts at $333 a month, and the ranking of financial data providers adds redistribution pricing across all 19 providers we researched.

Massive’s own pricing page and Databento’s migration guide are the two most detailed accounts of what replacing IEX Cloud actually costs.

If IEX Cloud is one of several providers on your list, our pages on yfinance alternatives and Polygon alternatives use the same rankings.
