A polygon alternative is worth shopping for now that Polygon.io renamed itself Massive on 30 October 2025, carrying the same keys and endpoints forward, with pricing unchanged. We scored 16 alternatives to it on six weighted criteria, and every figure below comes from each provider’s own pages, checked on 26 September 2026.
Among them, EODHD ranks first and Financial Modeling Prep second. We rank third, tied with Twelve Data. We sell market data too, scored with the same rubric as everyone else here.
How did we score the polygon.io alternatives?
Each provider was scored from 0 to 10 on real-time prices and price for value, weighted double, on historical depth and developer experience, weighted one and a half, and on breadth and reliability once each. A 10 is the best offering among the providers we researched.

- Free tier limited to 20 calls/day
EODHD leads on history and reviews: 40-plus years of US prices and a 4.7-of-5 Trustpilot score from 146 reviews. Real-time needs its $99.99 ALL-IN-ONE plan, well below Massive’s $199 Advanced tier for the same thing.
Financial Modeling Prep
7.2/10 Up to 30 years of history and a $22/month entry tier make this a strong value pick.

Financial Modeling Prep starts at $22 a month billed annually and ships native Excel and Google Sheets add-ins, neither of which Massive offers. It has no options chains at all, where Massive’s are a full build-out.
Market Data
7.1/10 SmartMid derived real-time is cheap but not raw NBBO, and coverage stops at US stocks.
- Real-time stock prices ×2
- 6/10
- Historical depth ×1.5
- 6/10
- Breadth ×1
- 4/10
- Price for value ×2

- Reliability and reputation ×1.5
- 9/10
Strengths
- Real-time from $12/mo Starter
- Free tier with 1 year of history included
- 6 official SDK languages
Weaknesses
- Real-time price is a derived SmartMid, not raw NBBO
- No websocket streaming
- No forex, crypto, or international stocks
Our real-time stock price starts at $12 a month billed annually against Massive’s $199 Stocks Advanced plan, though ours is SmartMid, a derived midpoint, rather than the full consolidated tape Massive sells. Our options API returns real-time OPRA chains with Greeks and IV at no extra cost, and our free Google Sheets add-on is a product Massive does not have.
Why are developers leaving Polygon?
6.3/10 Full-SIP real-time and 20+ years of history, but real-time starts at $199/month.
- Real-time stock prices ×2
- 6/10
- Historical depth ×1.5
- 9/10
- Breadth ×1
- 6/10
- Price for value ×2

- 3/10
Strengths
- Full-SIP real-time equities from $199/mo
- 20+ years of history back to 2003
- 4 official SDKs plus an MCP server
Weaknesses
- Real-time gated to the $199/mo Advanced tier
- Trustpilot 2.3/5 (6 reviews)
Massive’s Trustpilot rating is 2.3 of 5 from six reviews. The complaints are about data quality and support.
One reviewer called the data “totally inaccurate,” citing duplicated and missing stock splits. Another wrote that the options API is “a complete joke” with greeks that are “delayed or unavail[able].” A third described support channels as “essentially black holes.”
We see the switching happen from the other side, too. A Google Apps Script user hit our single-IP limit on a rotating-IP setup, trialed Massive the same afternoon, and it worked. They cancelled Market Data within the hour. In one week of April 2026, a single prospect ran Market Data against both Polygon and Massive before choosing.
Massive places sixth of 17 on the options data providers ranking too, well behind ThetaData and Market Data at the top. Real-time OPRA options start at $199 a month there, and options history tops out at five-plus years, shallower than the 20-plus years Massive sells for stocks.
Which Polygon alternative fits which need?
Pick EODHD for the deepest US and global history at the lowest real-time price. Pick Financial Modeling Prep for fundamentals and filings, plus native spreadsheet add-ins.
Stay with Massive if you want futures alongside stocks and options in one account. Twelve Data covers forex and crypto too, but no options at all. Pick us for US options with real-time Greeks included, or a free Sheets add-on Massive has no equivalent to.
Why can’t our API run from serverless functions?
Because the exchanges classify our product as a controlled platform only while one customer device at a time reads the data. Serverless platforms send requests from rotating egress IPs, which breaks that promise, so we allow no IP allowlists or exemptions.
A paying customer asked us for an allowlist in July 2026, for a personal portfolio monitor on edge functions. We said no. We gave him the only alternative the exchanges allow: uncontrolled access with no IP limit, which means historical data only, with every intraday and real-time price switched off.
Why can prices from Massive differ from ours on the same day?
Usually because one source adjusts past prices for later splits and corporate actions and the other does not. Adjusted history changes whenever a new corporate action lands, so a value you fetched last month can come back different today.
That default cost us. In April 2026 an institution valuing donated stock told us our highs and lows disagreed with other quote sites, and it withheld a subscription payment for five weeks while we investigated. A donation is valued at the price that traded that day, so it needed unadjusted candles: two query parameters removed all five discrepancies it reported. The same review found a real bug that dropped the third decimal from some prices, and we fixed it.
When is Market Data not a polygon alternative?
Choose Massive or another provider on this list if you need international stocks or the full consolidated SIP tape. Massive and Twelve Data both add forex and crypto beyond what we sell, and Massive alone adds futures.
Our stock market API page describes what we cover, and every plan on our pricing page costs the same for as long as you stay a customer. A developer moving off Polygon asked us about that directly in June 2026, and the answer holds for everyone: Your pricing is fixed for as long as you are a customer. The full ranking of financial data providers scores Massive and 18 others on coverage beyond stocks alone, and Massive’s own pricing page carries its current tier list.
If Polygon is one of several providers on your list, our pages on Databento alternatives and IEX Cloud alternatives use the same rankings.
Two head-to-head pages cover Massive against a single rival: Databento vs Polygon and Polygon vs Alpaca.
